World Mission Sunday is the day set aside for the whole church to gather in prayer and support it’s missionaries in the way that Jesus instructed his disciples.
The next World Mission Sunday is Oct. 22, 2017.
The funds collected on World Mission Sunday help create a “central fund of solidarity” for “The Pontifical Society for the Propagation of Faith”.
The Pontifical Mission Societies
The Diocese of London actively supports all 4 Pontifical Mission Societies in Canada by appointing Diocesan directors, attending National meetings and coordinating programs.
The four societies serve as the Holy Fathers own missions and focus on the universality of the Church.
1. The Society for the Propagation of the Faith
This is the oldest Pontifical Society and serves the “Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples”. It promotes spiritual and material assistance between particular Churches and mission territories. It depends heavily upon World Mission Sunday.
This Pontifical Society links to the success and vitality of all four mission societies. Prayer, information sharing and mission animation enable the Pontifical Mission Societies to serve in 115 countries and coordinate roughly 1100 mission dioceses around the globe. In London Diocese we pray for our current and former missionaries. We also pray for those missionaries who are currently serving us in parishes around the Diocese of London.
