Custodian - South Windsor Catholic Family of Parishes
Position: Full-time Custodian Location: South Windsor Catholic Family of Parishes, 4401 Mount Royal Dr., Windsor, ON Commitment: 20 hours per week (approx.) – willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends is required. Compensation: Based on experience and in accordance with Diocesan policies. This position is eligible for participation in the DOL’s lay staff benefits and pension plans. POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Business Manager, the Full-Time Custodian at Our Lady Mount Carmel Parish within the South Windsor Catholic Family of Parishes is a critical component of the parish staff and provides an important contribution towards the spiritual life of the parishioners through ensuring the timely caretaking, maintenance, and cleaning of our places of worship and offices.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Cleans all buildings including the church, offices, meeting rooms, washroom facilities, and other common areas
Orders cleaning and washroom supplies and ensures an adequate inventory of supplies
Collects garbage and recycling and places it in the bin for pickup or for recycling
Ensures the facilities are in good working order
Ensures that the heating and cooling systems are operational
Maintains lawn and gardens
Shovels snow and applies de-icing agents to sidewalks and emergency exits as required
Prepares and works to ensure a regular preventative maintenance schedule for all equipment
Sets up/takes down chairs and tables for events as coordinated by the Receptionist/Secretary
Identifies areas requiring major repairs and reports the same to the Business Manager (e.g. roof, doors, equipment, etc.)
As approved by the Manager, engages external companies/contractors to perform services as needed (e.g. plumber, electrician, heating/cooling)
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Secondary school diploma or equivalent
Prior experience in industrial or office building cleaning and property maintenance. Prior hands-on experience operating industrial floor polishers and/or floor cleaning machines is an asset
Prior experience operating riding mower and/or yard maintenance equipment is an asset
Strong applied knowledge of and experience safely handling cleaning chemicals and equipment
Prior experience performing minor repairs, e.g. plumbing, drywall, painting
Self-motivated and capable of working independently with an excellent attention to detail regarding cleanliness
Creative problem solver with a positive, action-oriented attitude
Strong communication and collaboration skills with a focus on customer service. Proven ability to work well with others (co-workers and volunteers) along with the ability to listen to and consider suggestions and feedback in a gracious manner
Ability and willingness to perform manual physical labour both indoors and outdoors
Ability and willingness to work flexible working hours based on event schedules, including weekends and evenings
Access to a reliable personal vehicle is preferred
A police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required of the successful candidate. Note: All new staff are required to complete on-line mandatory training available in English or French. Basic computer and reading proficiency to successfully complete this education is required.
