Parish-Based Workshops in 2023 and Beyond

The next phase of Horizons of Hope will be workshops offered to parishioners by many of our Families of Parishes. Please contact your Family of Parishes to find out if they are planning to offer them and when.

These workshops will help parishioners in the following ways: 

• Empower you by addressing questions surrounding palliative care, dying, death, suffering, accompaniment, and bereavement in a holistic fashion.
• Provide high-quality content that explores how palliative care is understood from a perspective of Catholic morals, theology, medical expertise and the Compassionate Community model.
• Have meaningful conversations so that parishes and Families or Parishes become Compassionate Communities, grounded in the mercy and tenderness of the living Christ.

About Horizons of Hope

What is Horizons of Hope?
As Catholics, our faith in Jesus Christ has much to teach us about living and dying well. Horizons of Hope: A Toolkit for Catholic Parishes on Palliative Care is designed to help each of us – caregivers, the sick and dying and family members – to find support and concrete assistance. If comes from the the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) Committee on Palliative Care, which includes a variety of partners and experts to address the increasing complexities regarding end-of-life issues in Canada.

Horizons of Hope in the Diocese of London
The St. Joseph Health Care Society, working with our Pastoral Services, has hired Sharon Hunt to promote “Horizons of Hope”. Sharon will be facilitating workshops across the diocese. This is a “train the trainer” model. These groups will help facilitate these workshops for their Family of Parishes.
