Position: Outreach Worker – Migrant Worker Ministry Diocesan Office: Migrant Worker Minister through the Diocese of London Pastoral Services Office Work Location(s): various locations in the Waterford and Tillsonburg area Commitment: 10 hours per week – 32-week contract May 2023 – December 2023. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Outreach Worker will provide outreach for suitable program participants, provide administrative, consultative, and investigative services for the program, and represent the agency at events and other stakeholder activities and meetings. The Outreach Worker provides one-on-one assistance for clients including referrals to various services within the community and provides updated and well-researched information relevant to client needs.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Responsible for efficient and effective coordination of project activities according to the TNO grant
Document and provide written and financial reporting of the project events supported per the agreed upon schedule.
Working with the Migrant Worker Ministry Specialist, forward for approval by TNO any proposed changes in the planned activities being supported including a brief description of the reason(s) for the change (s).
Conduct 5 drop-in centers in Tillsonburg.
Outreach directly to migrant workers in-farm, bunkhouses, through employers or places where they gathered. To deliver materials, items and support.
Coordinate and host 7 Gatherings, one per month, after mass with refreshments from May 2023 through November 2023.
Coordinate 2-3 Dinner events during the term of the contract. Examples: welcome dinner, Father’s Day, Independence Day or Appreciation Day. Provide information tables to provide resources to IAWs.
Provide information sessions.
Provide Welcome bags (backpacks) with personal hygiene products and the delivery of raincoats and informative resources-OHCOW.
Recruit, gather and provide orientation and training for volunteers.
Ensure compliance of all volunteers with Diocese of London policies, procedures and/or practices.
Conduct intake registration to recognize workers needs and follow up.
Report hours worked.
Other duties of a similar nature as required and/or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Post-secondary education or equivalent with specialization in Social Services or community-based studies. Prior experience working with TFWs, particularly in the agricultural sector is preferred.
Ability to assess and recognize the needs of clients in the areas of career planning and development, job readiness skills, planning, and identifying barriers to employment.
Familiarity with clients who may be experiencing challenges related to cultural adjustment and/or who are suffering from mental health issues, trauma, and/or learning differences.
Prior experience working with low-income, multi-racial, multi-lingual newcomer communities.
Excellent English communication skills.
Ability to speak an additional language, (Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, French, Chinese, Thai, Hindi, etc.,) is an asset.
Proficient at developing quality reports and deliverables using PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
Demonstrated commitment to working with people of diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds from a strong anti-oppressive framework.
Proven skills in group work, conflict resolution and problem-solving, round tables, partnerships, and networks.
This position will require schedule flexibility, including the ability to work evenings and weekends.
A Vulnerable Sector Screening as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required of the successful candidate.
