Position: Part-time Assistant Cook Work Location: Holy Family Retreat House, 121 Victoria St RR#1, Harrow, ON N0R 1G0 Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per week. Must be available to work on weekends and/or evenings based on business needs. Hours may increase during busy periods. Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience and Diocesan policies. Posting Date: March 31, 2025 Closing Date: April 22, 2025, by 4:00 pm POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Director of the Holy Family Retreat House and following the directions of the Cook, the Assistant Cook is responsible for preparation, setup, serving and cleanup of meals. The Assistant Cook ensures the provision of excellent customer service and superior and nutritious cuisine while ensuring safe and sanitary food handling in a professional kitchen environment.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Follows the duty outline and ensures that all responsibilities are performed efficiently and correctly in a timely fashion for meal service.
Prepares and cooks hot and cold food items and garnishes including baking items as required and according to event menus.
Uses safe food handling practices. Utilizes kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, deep fat fryer, electric slicers, food blenders, food processors, dishwashers, etc., in a safe manner and uses required personal protective equipment as directed.
Resolves minor concerns where possible regarding food supplies and/or equipment.
Reports immediately any malfunctioning equipment and/or other unsafe conditions in the kitchen.
Other duties of a similar nature as assigned by the Director or Cook.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
A college diploma, certification or equivalent in food services, cooking/culinary field.
3-5 years of cooking experience in a residential and/or hospitality based kitchen.
Successful completion of a recognized Food Handlers course and/or be willing to complete prior to start of employment.
Professional, pleasant, courteous and welcoming disposition with a dedication to excellent customer service. Responds promptly to guest needs.
Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions, work independently with minimum supervision, and/or in a team.
Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
Good attendance and punctuality.
Knowledge of health and safety requirements and standards applicable to commercial kitchens and cooking facilities.
Performs physical motions including bending, twisting, stooping, pushing and pulling.
The demands of this position require work involving standing, walking, ascending and descending stairs as well as safely lifting and carrying objects of up to 25 kg.
Willingness to support the teachings and mission of the Church, the Diocese of London, and Holy Family Retreat House.
A police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required of the successful candidate.
