Work Location: Sarnia Bluewater Roman Catholic Family of Parishes. Primary location: Family of Parishes office – 1011 Oak Avenue, Sarnia, Ontario Commitment: 28 hours per week - schedule and location of work is flexible and will be determined in consultation with the Supervisor to meet business needs. POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Communications Coordinator, the Social Media Assistant is a dynamic, outgoing individual who enjoys interacting with the community, providing opportunities for evangelization and promotion of our Family of Parishes events through social media, video recordings, and the Family of Parishes website.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Liaise with staff and committee chairs to develop a media presence
Create website content that reflects the values of the Family of Parishes
Create a social media presence through Facebook, Instagram and other relevant social media channels
Record Family of Parishes events such as celebrations and social gatherings through video and photos
Assist with the maintenance and updating of all Family of Parishes social media
Other duties of a similar nature as assigned by the Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
A diploma or degree in Communications, Graphic Design, Journalism, Marketing or related disciplines and a minimum of 1 year of experience in marketing, communications or a similar role
Prior hands-on experience producing quality web-based videos, advertisements, media posts, etc. compliant with current copyright laws and Ontario legislation, including AODA
Experience editing and updating websites; prior experience using e-Catholic is an asset
Proficient in all types of social media including editing websites, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
Advanced hands-on working knowledge in the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.
Creative and experienced in manipulating and using design tools such as Canva
A willingness and ability to work non-standard work hours including evenings and/or weekends as required to meet business needs (i.e. shoot content for Parish event on the weekend)
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of highly sensitive materials
Excellent interpersonal, planning, organizational and communication skills
Collaborative, supportive, flexible team player with a high degree of initiative capable of working independently
Resourceful self-starter with thorough attention to detail with a desire to produce quality projects and results
Proficiency in written and spoken French is an asset
Friendly, hospitable, and professional representative of the Diocese of London at all times
An understanding of and desire to support and promote the mission of the Diocese of London
Firm understanding of the Catholic faith and its liturgical calendar
Flexibility in work location as approved by Supervisor (i.e. Parish office, different Churches, remote work, etc.)
Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license and personal insurance coverage to travel throughout the community (i.e. travel to different Parishes within the Family or Parishes)
A police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required of the successful candidate.
